Government cash rescues factories

BUS builder Alexander Dennis has reversed its decision to close two Scots factories after the SNP government agreed to provide a £4million furlough scheme to retain staff.

The cash will be used to pay workers after the firm signs new orders and before work begins, with taxpayers funding 80 per cent of wages and the remainder paid by the company.

But Alexander Dennis Ltd (ADL) can only access the funding if it can provide evidence of sufficient orders to sustain its two factories in Camelon and Larbert.

Announcing the deal yesterday, John Swinney said the £4million was intended "to act as a bridge to a sustainable future for the company in Scotland".
