Euro top scorer but result gutted Mart

- BY FRASER WILSON

HE blasted his way into the history books as Hibs’ record European scorer with his Conference League strike against Legia Warsaw.

But it was a missed shot at making an historic step as a club that gnawed away at Martin Boyle.

With 93 minutes on the clock David Gray's side looked certain to become the first Hibs side to make it through to the group stage of modern-day European competition.

Then disaster struck. Legia netted deep into in jury time then in the first period of extra time.

Skipper Boyle's goal levelled the tie on aggregate and made him outright the clubs top scorer in European football with nine goals.

But Boyle was hurting badly after suffering another late blow, the third time in six Euro ties this season that Hibs have conceded in injury time.
