TOMAS MAGNUSSON is thrilled to be playing his part in Hearts’ title charge - after revealing how Brexit cost him a move to England's bottom tier a year ago.

The Icelandic midfielder had agreed to make the switch from his homeland to League Two in January but it fell through when he failed to get a work permit.

And that sliding-doors moment has worked out for the best with the 23-year-old part of a Jambos squad setting the pace in the Scottish top flight.

Magnusson, who joined Hearts from Valur last summer, said: "It has been a crazy year really. I almost went down to England a year ago but that didn't happen. It was League Two but I couldn't get a work permit because of Brexit.

"That's why I went to a different club back home and played in Europe.

"I went to Valur and then six months later I'm here. It has not really sunk in but I'm here and I'm really happy that I'm here.

"It's a blessing in disguise and I'm really happy at Hearts."
