Van Pelt survives slip to be top Trump

BO VAN PELT was in seventh heaven last night after landing one of the biggest wins of his career in the PGA Seniors Championship at Trump International.

The 50-year-old American, who only qualified for the Legends Tour in May, must have feared he had let his chance of landing the £128,000 top prize slip when he surrendered a two-shot advantage over Darren Fichardt in the space of two holes.

But it was the South African who cracked under pressure at the first hole of a sudden-death playoff after the rivals had finished all-square on three under par.

While Van Pelt, who carded a closing 71 to Fichardt's 70, birdied 18 in the rerun, his opponent ran up a double-bogey seven to lose out.
