Cancer sufferers told to avoid chemotherapy, GP says non scientific guidance can lead to harm
A DISGRACED health guru banned from practising in Australia is hosting an £800-a-go seminar at one of Donald Trump's Scottish hotels.
Barbara O'Neill was banned from giving health treatment or advice in Australia after several of her teachings were found to be dangerous.
Her Christian faith-based advice included claims that cancer was a fungus that could be cured by bicarbonate of soda.
But O'Neill, 70, will attend Turnberry Hotel to offer her online fans the chance to meet her in person.
The six-day course, that kicks off on September 22, costs £795, with accommodation packages also available for fans at an additional cost.
O'Neill has more than a million followers online, with many happy to put their faith in her methods rather than those of recognised doctors.
Scottish GP Margaret McCartney warned that following so-called experts with nonscientific advice and methods can lead to “real harm’.
Addressing the O'Neill Scottish seminars, Dr McCartney said: “People are of course entitled to believe what they want. But if you are making a decision about your health, I'd recommend consulting with people who follow the principles of evidence-based medicine.
“This is especially true in areas of vaccination and cancer.
