World is our oyster after extraordinary night when Scotland were battered.. and won!

HE'S had to be patient for his Scotland chance.

But after scoring a first international goal to help keep our World Cup dream alive - Lewis Ferguson must have felt it was all worth the wait.

The Bologna midfielder had to bide his time to become a regular on Steve Clarke's teamsheet.

But last night he etched his name into the hearts of the Tartan Army with a vital strike against Greece at Hampden to become a national hero.

And at the death, teammate Lyndon Dykes sealed a priceless 3-1 victory to keep us well on track for the greatest show on earth next summer.

For most of this game it looked like Clarke's side would come off second best. Greece were on top for large spells and led through Kostas Tsimikas. But Ryan Christie's leveller raised the roof before Ferguson blew it off and Dykes put the icing on the cake.

The result is huge for Clarke and his players in their quest to reach the World Cup next year.

Scotland have now amassed seven points from three games, with Belarus at home up next on Sunday. The Greeks are playing catch-up in Group C with Denmark sharing top spot with Scotland.

This victory wasn't pretty. The visitors had plenty of chances to win it as Clarke's team had to dig in and defend to stay in the game. But when Christie steered the ball home to make it 1-1, they had a surge of belief.

And from Andy Robertson's free-kick, Ferguson pounced on a loose ball in the box to make it 2-1. Scotland had Angus Gunn to thank after a wonder save to deny Greek ace Kostas Karetsas.
