Court deems teacher at top school was abuser but he won't stand trial

TWO survivors of school abuser John Young have told of the devastating impact on their lives.

Young, a former international rugby referee nicknamed "Piggy", was accused of abusing pupils at Edinburgh Academy from the 60s to the 90s.

Yesterday, a court ruled he had carried out the attacks.

Young, 91, was spared a conventional court case and jail term after it was ruled he was not fit to stand trial.

The retired teacher has been the subject of a fact-finding court session at Edinburgh Sheriff Court - which ruled he did carry out a string of physical and indecent assaults while in charge of the PE department at the Edinburgh Academy from 1966-93.
