Johnson's powder linked to cancer cases, claim families

- BY MARTIN BAGOT

UP TO 3000 people in the UK are suing Johnson & Johnson, claiming its talcum powder contributed to them getting cancer.

They allege the US pharmaceutical giant knowingly sold Johnson's Baby Powder contaminated with asbestos.

They claim either they or a family member developed ovarian cancer, or mesothelioma, from using the talc. They are seeking damages at the High Court in London.

Claimant Janet Fuschillo, 75, said she had used J&J's baby powder since the 1960s and was diagnosed with ovarian cancer seven years ago.

She added: "I used talc on myself and all four of my children because we were told it was pure and good for you.

"I used talc when I changed nappies, after baths, all the time, for close to 50 years. It's of great concern and anger that I used talc on my children."
