A FIGHTING dog which savagely attacked a mother and child has cost the taxpayer more than £15,000 to be housed on death row.

The Japanese Akita - named Lucky - has been kept in £25-a-day kennels since carrying out the attack which left a nine-year-old girl scarred for life.

A sheriff is set to order the dog's destruction and has urged its owners to voluntarily agree to the move to save money and get a more lenient sentence.

Perth Sheriff Court was told that Lucky had caused serious injuries and had already been involved in a previous attack more than four years ago.
