U Hwnt l'r Bont on the banks of Afon Conwy in Llanrwst is one of the most photographed buildings in Wales.

The building had a haircut earlier this year, when its iconic Virginia creeper was significantly trimmed back to allow for roof and chimney repairs, preserving the historic Grade II listed building.

The famous tearoom, which is located by the Pont Fawr bridge, may look a little different but it is still spectacular sight. Originally built around the year 1480 as a farmhouse and residential dwelling it was later to be used as the local courthouse.

The National Trust acquired the property in the 1950s for its protection and made the decision to lease the property to locals in the town. The lease owners then decided to transform this amazing vine covered cottage (which changes colour to orange in the autumn) into a traditional Welsh tearoom for all to enjoy.

It has proved successful and has been drawing tourists from all over the World inside ever since. It’s even made the front covers of The Lonely Planet Wales Travel Guide, and even the Beano comic.

We saw people from Japan and Germany enjoying the Welsh hospitality when we were. The tearoom is actually older than the bridge that it stands by and to cross the single lane hump bridge is a task in itself.
