Manager Parkinson ‘overachieving’ and repaying owner's faith

WREXHAM'S decision to stick by Phil Parkinson is paying dividends after their manager was praised for “overachieving”.

The former Bolton boss came under fire at the start of this season after the Red Dragons endured a rocky start to life in the Championship. Reports emerged in September that discussions had been held over Parkinson's future after Wrexham, owned by Ryan Reynolds and Rob Mac, lost three of their five opening league fixtures.

The speculation was quickly dismissed and labelled as “an absolute” disgrace by Wrexham's non-executive director Shaun Harvey.

The club's fortunes have improved dramatically since then, embarking on an eight-match unbeaten run which has seen them rise to tenth in the Championship standings, just three points off the playoffs.

Parkinson was heavily backed in the summer transfer market after Wrexham spent around £33million on new players.
