Speed limit cut for 50mph road that's 'like Silverstone'

SPEED limits on a section of a key Flint-shire road are to be reduced.
A new pedestrian crossing is being built on the A550 at Penyffordd roundabout and the local authority wants to lower the speeds of approaching vehicles.The current 50mph speed limit will drop to 40mph either side of the roundabout to “improve driver awareness, reaction times and compliance with traffic signals” at the new Toucan crossing.
A footpath is also being shifted away from the road. The overall aim is to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists crossing the A550 to and from nearby Penyffordd Railway Station.
Local residents have applauded the six-week scheme, which was due to get underway yesterday.
Online, a woman said the road can resemble a racetrack at times.
