Shock as key bridge gets even lower weight limit

NEW restrictions have been imposed on the Menai Suspension Bridge after more faults were found. The shocking news was delivered by the Welsh Government late yesterday afternoon.

Engineers working on the bridge's refurbishment have recommended the crossing is open to cars only, with immediate effect.

A new three-tonne weight limit has been imposed and larger vehicles will not be able to cross.

A police presence will be at the bridge to “ensure compliance”.

It follows investigation work beneath the bridge carried out as part of the crossing's repairs and upgrades. Having already fallen behind schedule, the Welsh Government has not yet indicated if the scheme will be further delayed.
