EXPLORE THE WONDERS OF WILDLIFE AT YOUR LOCAL NATIONAL TRUST CYMRU PLACES
-
EVERYONE needs nature and the warmer months are perfect for watching sunsets, wandering through meadows and spotting wildlife. Here National Trust Cymru have rounded up the best places to escape into the outdoors and take time to notice the natural world around you this summer.
BEST FOR... MEADOWS
Chirk Castle & Garden, Wrexham
Since 2016, 16-acres of hay meadow next to Chirk Castle's portcullis have been transformed into a species-rich meadow that are now full of the sounds of butterflies, bees and birds. Meander through the paths mowed in the buttercup filled meadows at the front of the castle and spot many different varieties of wildflowers, including the rare and declining Greater butterfly-orchid.
Dyffryn Gardens, near Cardiff
This will be the fifth year of 'mini meadows' on the Great Lawn at Dyffryn Gardens. Each year they are cut into different shapes to limit soil compaction and increase the diversity of pollinators and insects in the garden. Visit in the summer months to see this year's meadow take the form of sunbeams, shooting out from the central sundial.
Penrhyn Castle & Garden, Bangor
