Hawk Mountain can scale the Craven heights at Newmarket
HAWK Mountain can continue where he left off as a juvenile as he aims to start his three-year-old campaign with Betway Craven Stakes glory.
He is among a long line of three-year-old stars for trainer Aidan O’Brien, but the Wootton Bassett colt can further stake his claim for the Classics with victory on the Rowley Mile.
After finishing in midfield on his racecourse debut over seven furlongs at the Curragh, Hawk Mountain got off the mark over a mile at the same venue before impressively winning the Beresford Stakes by three and a quarter lengths in September.
A third straight triumph came in the Futurity Trophy at Doncaster, where he led a Ballydoyle one-two-three which included the then ante-post Derby favourite Benvenuto Cellini in the final podium place.
It looks likely that Hawk Mountain is heading down the Derby route, due to his Dante Stakes entry, and getting his nose in front at Newmarket will only improve his chances.
