CORONER SAYS COLD TEMPERATURES ‘LIKELY’ CAUSE OF DEATH IN FIELD

- By DAVID POWELL Daily Post Reporter

92-year-old died after getting stuck in mud

A PENSIONER who was found dead in a boggy field probably died after getting stuck in the mud, an inquest heard.

A search was launched after William Morris Jones, 92, was reported missing, before police discovered his body in a field.

His body was found in a field off the B4411 in Mynydd Ednyfed near Criccieth on December 29, an inquest in Caernarfon heard.

A coroner concluded the death was accidental.

Kate Robertson, senior coroner for North West Wales, said Mr Jones, a retired Criccieth Golf Club groundsman, died from bronchopneumonia and hypothermia.

Mr Jones' second-cousin, Nora Lloyd Roberts, told the inquest Mr Jones had stayed with her on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

She said he "ate well" and on Friday, December 27, she took him to his home in Rhoslan near Criccieth leaving him with extra food.

The following day, Mr Jones visited Mrs Roberts' husband Brychan's darts shop in Caernarfon and had a cup of tea.
