Weekend sports defeats provide a time for reflection

IT WAS a sobering weekend for South African sports fans after the Springboks, Proteas and fighter Dricus du Plessis tasted defeat.

Sport is a microcosm of life, and we understand that no team or sports person can stay on top forever. Still, South African sport has been on a high in 2025, with the Proteas and Springboks world champions in their respective fields, while Du Plessis has enjoyed a golden run in the Ultimate Fighting Championship ring.

The latter lost to Russian Khamzat Chimaev in a Middleweight Championship fight in Chicago on Saturday night.
