RESIDENTS of Ward 66 and 32 in the Bluff are moving forward with their plans to initiate legal action against Transnet, following what they describe as a persistent and growing influx of illegal land invaders occupying their properties.

This comes despite Transnet's assurance that it has formally escalated the matter to its Legal Division and that a firm of attorneys has been appointed to handle the legal processes related to this issue.

In a statement to the Daily News, Transnet acknowledged that it is aware of the illegal invasions taking place on its property situated in the Bluff area.

In addition to the legal steps being taken, Transnet has engaged with the local ward councillor and appointed a private security company to patrol and secure the affected property.

"Security guards have been deployed at all main entry points to prevent further illegal occupation and to safeguard Transnet’s assets," the agency stated.

"Transnet's attorneys have also engaged with the Station Commander at Brighton Beach Police Station, who has given an undertaking that the South African Police Service will urgently attend to any further infringements or illegal invasions that may occur on the property."
