REAL Madrid coach Xabi Alonso returns to Anfield today to face his former side Liverpool in the Uefa Champions League, having made a near-perfect start to life in the Spanish capital.

While Premier League giants Liverpool have managed only two wins in their last eight games, Alonso's Madrid are soaring, transformed from last season and improving week by week under the Basque manager.
The 15-time European champions defeated Clasico rivals Barcelona last weekend in La Liga and now aim to flex their muscles again in another high-calibre clash against Arne Slot’s side. Their only defeat this season came in a 5-2 derby humiliation by Atletico Madrid, but Alonso's team have evolved rapidly since.
