11 victims still in hospital as police quiz 53-year-old
THE city of Liverpool came together yesterday in the wake of Monday's car smash horror.
More than 60 people were hurt when a Ford Galaxy was driven into a street packed with fans celebrating Liverpool FC's Premier League win.
Last night, 11 people remained in hospital and a 53-year-old man from the West Derby area of the city was being held by police on suspicion of attempted murder and drug-driving.
Merseyside's Assistant Chief Constable Jenny Sims said: "They are stable and recovering well." Amid the chaos there were stories of heroism and solidarity - from a landlord who let terrified people take refuge in his pub, to hospital staff who volunteered their time to help.
Marc Lucky, divisional medical director for surgery at Aintree University Hospital, said: "It's a very good example of resilience.
"We had too many [volunteers]. which is a very interesting complaint to have. We were very, very fortunate yesterday, I must say.
