'MUM & DAD DIED LAST YEAR AND I WOULD HAVE LOVED TO SHARE THIS'

- BY ADAM HATHAWAY

MEG JONES is aiming to bring home the World Cup for the parents who tragically cannot see her do it.

The England centre's mother and father, Paula and Simon, died within a few months of each other last year but Jones has been doing them proud as the Red Roses' player of the tournament so far.

She has one more hurdle to get over to complete her mission - beat Canada in the final today and claim a first global title for England since 2014.

Cardiff-born star Jones is eligible for England through her mum, and is one of three players shortlisted to be Women's World Player of the Year - a win at Twickenham could seal the deal, with the award voting taking place after today's final.

Jones revealed that her World Cup ambitions have been fired by the memories of her parents, who introduced her to the game.
