Russia suspected of blast on key Ukraine supply line

- BY ANDY LINES Chief Reporter

POLISH Prime Minister Donald Tusk yesterday vowed to catch those responsible for an explosion on a railway line used for crucial deliveries to Ukraine.

He called it an “unprecedented act of sabotage” and said it could have led to a disaster on the track, which is used by 115 trains a day.

There were no casualties from the incident on the line from capital Warsaw to Lublin. But the consequences could have been catastrophic if the gap in the tracks had caused a train to derail at full speed.

Mr Tusk visited the scene, which is 60 miles from Warsaw, and said: “Unfortunately, there is no doubt that we are dealing with an act of sabotage. Fortunately, there was no tragedy, but the matter is nonetheless very serious.”

He described the attack as “an attempt to destabilise and destroy railway infrastructure, which could have led to a rail disaster”.
