UN rant a new low for Trump

AS I watched the TV news reports of Trump's address to the UN I was reminded of the phrase attributed to Euripides: “Those whom the gods choose to destroy they first make mad.”

Over the years we have witnessed many bizarre messages from this President. In a stable democracy there would be options and people would be able to take remedial action. Unfortunately, the political context in the US does not reach such a high standard.

We, in Europe, can do little but cross our fingers and hope.

Malcolm Ball, Wakefield

Donald Trump is an egocentric fantasist whose speech to the UN was ridiculous. The UN is just that, a unity of countries intent on the promotion of democracy, peace and goodwill. That is in contrast to Trump who is forbidding free speech in the US. They need to call him out for the lies he spouts.

If the UN will not stand up to him, then we are all threatened by emboldened right-wing movements intent on dominating our lives with their deceitful bile.
