Starmer hits back over rant at Zelensky | US insults, as UK vows ₤4.5bn war aid

AFTER fighting a bitter battle with Russia for three years, Ukraine now faces conflict on another front, against a ranting Donald Trump.

The US President unleashed a volley of insults at Volodymyr Zelensky, falsely accusing him of starting the war, being a dictator and warning his country could be annihilated if he does not accept peace talks he is not invited to.

But as Mr Trump appeared to side with a real tyrant in Vladimir Putin by suggesting Russia should keep land it occupied, Britain vowed to plough ahead with a £4.5billion aide package to support Mr Zelensky in his nation's desperate battle for survival.

PM Keir Starmer pointedly contradicted the US leader when he phoned the Ukrainian President to support him "as a democratically elected leader”.

And former Tory Defence Secretary Ben Wallace accused the White House of spreading Russian "propaganda lies".

Much of the money for Ukraine could come from unfrozen Russian assets seized after Putin invaded his neighbour in February 2022. European allies, including France, also pledged help.
