Garden bird hits its lowest recorded number in huge poll

THEIR chirps and whistles are the soundtrack to the British summer... but conservationists have sounded the alarm over starling numbers.

They were only the fourth most numerous bird in the RSPB's Big Garden Birdwatch, having often been the most common prior to 2000.
