Scandal needed King's firm hand

IT WAS inevitable that at some stage, Prince Andrew would lose his status in the wake of the Epstein scandal.

King Charles had made the right decision to reduce his brother to plain old Andrew Mountbatten Windsor.

The Firm needed to remove him from the umbrella of royal patronage.

Andrew had initiated his own downfall and only has himself to blame. He may still have to undergo further scrutiny and is not out of the woods yet.

Jenny Pain, Chatham, Kent

Kevin Maguire's column in Saturday's paper was spot on. If people think Charles acted after listening to the people they need to think again.

He has been in no hurry to do the right thing regarding Andrew for years. But he's suddenly decided his brother is of less importance than the reputation of the Firm.

The only things that truly matter are the victims - and the justice they deserve.

If Charles is truly concerned then he should drag his brother into the witness box to give his side of the story.
