Liverpool seal a record £125m deal for Isak but move for Guehi collapses as Palace pull plug
LIVERPOOL last night took their spending this summer to more than £450million as they landed Alexander Isak but missed out on Marc Guehi on a dramatic deadline day.
The Reds finally brokered a British record £125m deal to sign striker Isak from Newcastle. But despite a deal sheet being submitted with the Premier League, a £35m move for Crystal Palace centre-back Guehi collapsed at the 11th hour.
Palace pulled the plug on Guehi’s move - despite the defender having a medical in London - after defensive target Igor Julio opted to join London rivals West Ham on loan from Brighton.
Guehi, 25, had showdown talks with Palace boss Oliver Glasner, who was desperate to keep him, and the club eventually decided to hold onto their influential player, who captained the side in the 3-0 win at Aston Villa on Sunday.
The England international has just one year left on his contract and can move for free next summer but is disappointed the move fell apart.
