Lisa: Parents were told to expect worst

MENINGITIS awareness campaigner Lisa Snowdon is urging people to seek help if they think they have the disease - as she did.

- BY SHELLEY SPADONI

The TV presenter was struck down by viral meningitis in 2010.

She became so ill that doctors told her parents to expect the worst.

Lisa, 54, said: “Don't be a hero. As I learned, your health is the most important thing. Familiarise yourself with the signs and the symptoms because meningitis can manifest itself in a flu-like way and you can mistake it for a bug."

Recalling her own severe infection, she says she felt constantly cold and had a stiff neck over about three weeks but dismissed it as flu or a normal winter virus.
