Rest ye merry after visiting attractions with nothing to pay

Sometimes, the most magical Christmas experiences are the ones that do not require a ticket or an expensive booking fee.

As our nationwide guide shows, from silent discos and lantern parades to immersive art installations and seaside light trails, there are plenty of free ways to get into the Christmas spirit.

London & the South

Winter by the River (London Bridge)

Set along the Thames with views of Tower Bridge, Winter by the River is one of London's biggest free festive events, running through to early January.

The riverside walkway is filled with Christmas stalls, decorations and free popup entertainment, including live music, performances and family friendly activities at selected times.

Snoopy in the City

Fleet Street Quarter has welcomed a very special guest this year - a Snoopy trail.

In a nostalgic treat for parents, there are 12 sculptures celebrating the 75th anniversary of Charles M Schulz's Peanuts strip placed around the area. It also means a festive journey for kids. The trail offers magical views of London, lit by Christmas decorations. The interactive tour runs until January 16.

St Albans Christmas Bauble Trail

Running until late December, this free treasure hunt invites families to search for 12 colourful baubles hidden across the Hertfordshire city. The self-guided trail is easy to follow, with prizes to be won and no booking required.
