Draper shrugs off injury scare to launch his bid to follow in hero Andy's footsteps and make it a grass double this summer

- BY NEIL McLEMAN X@NeilMcLeman

JACK DRAPER revealed he overcame a fitness scare before beginning his bid to emulate his idol Andy Murray on the London grass.

The British No.1 wrote, “Good to be home” on the TV camera after beating American Jenson Brooksby 6-3 6-1 in the opening round of the HSBC Championships at Queen's.

Under a scorching sun, his warm-up for Wimbledon started with a rapid win in his first grass-court match of the season against the world No.149.

Draper's win was only delayed in the second set for treatment to a spectator who had fainted in the heat.

But the 6ft 4in star said he had suffered his own physical issues after a “really heavy fall” before his first home match of the year. “I feel good now,” he said. “Last week in training I had a little niggle.

“I had to have a break for a couple of days to see it through.
