Nurse gives a protective flu vaccine

IT is now or never to vaccinate children against flu and protect the elderly over Christmas, NHS leaders are warning.

There is a record number of flu infections for the time of year, with kids driving a surge in an aggressive new strain, H3N2, which makes even the healthy severely ill.

People are being urged to get their jab in the next few days as immunity takes about a fortnight to build up.
