Face the future with digital IDs

Keir Starmer has announced plans to introduce controversial digital ID cards, claiming they will combat illegal working. The scheme will be available to UK citizens and those legally resident in the country. The “BritCards” are not billed as compulsory but every adult will need one when trying to get a job or rent a home in the UK. You say...

I CANNOT believe so many people are up in arms about the introduction of digital ID cards. They argue our civil liberties are being taken away and it’s another way for the government to keep tabs on us. Well, guess what - they already do.

Our every move is recorded in some way. We use credit cards, take receipts and CCTV is everywhere. There is a digital footprint of our every move.

The benefit of digital ID cards is that it will make it more difficult for illegal workers to get jobs. Paper documents are far easier to forge. I think cards will help in some way to keep a check on who is in this country legally and who is not.

If you are a law-abiding citizen, why not have one? It should also make our day-to-day lives easier. If the card is held in a digital wallet and is a primary source of ID, then that should make it more efficient.
