Family of Brits held in Afghan jail overjoyed as they escapé regime
FULL of joy and immense relief, Sarah Entwistle grasps her father Peter's hand as he steps on to the tarmac in Qatar yesterday.
Peter Reynolds, 80, and his wife Barbie, 76, were finally freed from an Afghan jail where they had been held for eight months without charge.
The Brits, who had lived in Afghanistan for nearly two decades, were arrested by the Taliban in February.
Jailed for unknown reasons and kept separated, their family feared for their health, said to be fast deteriorating.
Speaking from Kabul before leaving, Mrs Reynolds, told Sky News: “God is good, as they say in Afghanistan.”
She said even after all they had endured they would return to the country, explaining: “If we can... we are Afghan citizens.”
