Brit tourists set to face protests at hot hotspots

FAMILIES heading off on a European getaway this summer could be faced with angry protesters as soon as they land at the airport.

Anti-tourism campaigners are refusing to rule out demos at terminals. They say mass tourism is fuelling soaring rents and a lack of affordable homes, as accommodation is bought for tourist lets and land for building resorts.

Protest group the SET European Network Against Touristification is planning protests from June 15. It represents Spanish destinations including the Canary Islands, Ibiza and Mallorca. At a three-day summit in Barcelona yesterday there were also campaigners from France, Italy and Portugal.
