Doctor told us Skye had anxiety but it turned out to be leukaemia

Mum Christina's inner doubt helped to save her daughter

A mother’s instincts helped to save her little girl's life after a doctor mistook her leukaemia for anxiety.

When bubbly 10-year-old Skye complained she had a sharp pain in her side, with a fever and breathlessness, mum Christina Harris took her straight to the GP - only to be told her daughter had anxiety.

Baffled by the diagnosis because keen dancer Skye was a happy child, when the pain worsened and the fever persisted, she took her to A&E.

Suspecting the pain was pneumonia, doctors ordered further blood tests and investigations, which revealed something more sinister.

And on December 7, 2021, Skye was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukaemia, a rare blood cancer.

Blue-lighted from a hospital near her Essex home to London's Great Ormond Street Hospital - known as GOSH - she began chemotherapy.
