A NURSES' union leader today declares a national emergency as she tells of patients dying in hospital corridors.

The Royal College of Nursing is also demanding mandatory NHS reporting of people being cared for in corridors, to expose the extent of hospital overcrowding.

The call comes after data released from 48 NHS Trusts in England show a third had elderly patients who had been waiting at least two days for a ward bed.

Corridor care has increased 25-fold overall since 2019.
