GOVERNMENT NEEDS TO ENGAGE WITH EU

- Edited by GRAHAM HISCOTT

BRITISH drivers face a jump in the cost of EU-made electric cars unless the government begins urgent talks, industry chiefs have warned.

UK-made cars heading the other way across the Channel also risk being hit with tariffs of between 10% and 22% from the start of 2027, says trade body the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.

The threat comes despite the post-Brexit EU-UK Trade and Cooperation Agreement being signed almost five years ago.
