AN Egyptian asylum seeker jailed for raping a woman in Britain was part of a bomb-making cell.

Abdelrahmen Adnan Abouelela got eight-and-a-half years this week for the attack - and will be automatically deported after sentence.

It has now been revealed the 42-year-old was found guilty in his absence of being part of a cell that made bombs in his home country and jailed for seven years in 2015.

Abouelela and six other men were said to have planned to carry out attacks on gas lines and electricity pylons. But he reportedly escaped from Egypt before conviction.
