10 years on from tragic Teddy's death new tot fills terrible void
TEDDY Houlston's death so soon after birth left a hole in his family's life that has been especially hard for his twin Noah.
But 10 years on from that dark day, the arrival of baby Bodhi has helped fill the void.
And Noah could not be more delighted. His tragic brother had made history by becoming Britain's youngest ever organ donor aged just 100 minutes after he was born with the fatal congenital brain condition anencephaly.
Teddy's story sparked the Mirror's Change The Law For Life campaign, which called for an opt-out system for donors.
Parents Mike and Jess this week invited the Mirror into their home to meet little Bodhi. The couple marked Teddy's anniversary last month and while their grief was still raw, they had a ray of sunshine in their new daughter.
They also said her arrival has been a great comfort to Noah who has felt the loss of his brother even though they never got to know each other, common in a surviving twin.
He is playing Bodhi a recording of Teddy's heartbeat, placed in the tummies of two bears. After cooing in her ear, "Bo-Bo," he said: "I don't play it often because I don't want it to run out." Jess added: "He is besotted.
"Every single night he would ask, 'When can we have another baby?" He has always been missing something." Bodhi was born on February 111 and Jess, 37, said she can see Teddy in her.
She added: "I have felt joy with her in a way I wasn't able to feel after Teddy. She is just amazing, I'm enjoying every second.
"She has Teddy's mouth. When she is out for the count, her mouth wide open, she looks just like him. It's nice, we only have so many minutes-worth of memories of him." Mike, 39, told how Bodhi's arrival has brought a sense of wholeness again.
