Hol plea for 80yrs since end of war
THE 80th anniversary of the end of the Second World War next year will be the last significant milestone for surviving veterans.
And many believe an extra bank holiday would be a fitting way to remember their heroics, as well as the sacrifices of their fallen comrades.
In a Mirror poll, 73% backed the move to honour the role played by brave military personnel and civilians on the home front in repelling fascism.
But most people quizzed agreed that younger generations do not know enough about the actions of those in the fight against Hitler and his allies including heroes such as Bernard Morgan, who turns 101 in February.
