West Indies captain Chase rues poor finances and infrastructure
Daily Mirror - Sri Lanka
|October 06, 2025
The long batting struggle of West Indies is largely due to poor finances and below-par infrastructure in the Caribbean, test captain Roston Chase said after their defeat by India in the series opener in Ahmedabad on Saturday.
-
India triumphed inside three days and will be favourites to complete a 2-0 series sweep in Delhi starting on Friday against a West Indies side, who were blanked 3-0 at home by Australia in July.
In Ahmedabad, West Indies managed 162 and 146 and could not bowl out their rivals the only time India batted in the match.

Justice Held Hostage: Why Lawyer Strikes Betray the Public Trust
The recent decision by the Bar Association of Sri Lanka (BASL) to stage a nationwide boycott of court proceedings following the tragic murder of Attorney-at-Law Buddhika Mallawarachchi and his wife has reignited a crucial debate: Do lawyers have the right to hold the justice system hostage to express their grievances, no matter how legitimate those grievances might be? The question took a sharply ironic turn at a BASL press conference in Colombo, where a journalist silenced the entire panel with one pointed query: if the gunmen who shot the lawyer are arrested tomorrow, would members of the very same association appear in court to defend them? The BASL president's uncomfortable moment following this question laid bare the profession's deep-seated double standard.
