The rarest of rare Erica cunoniences, not seen for more than a decade, has been spotted again
In September, a small team from CapeNature and the Custodians of Rare and Endangered Wildflowers (CREW) located eight surviving plants of Erica cunoniensis on Buffelstalberg.
About 200 people had combed the area in 2012, but found no trace of it.
The first sighting was made by pupil field ranger Sylvia Wolita, who said it was a reminder that nature is both fragile and resilient. The sighting was met with great excitement, says Cape Nature's communications officer, Luke Folb.
