Browns Plantations: A Dual Win in Sustainability

Browns Plantations, the world’s largest manufacturer of tea, was recently honoured with two accolades in sustainability; the Future Leader Award and the Biodiversity Award at the CIOB Sri Lankan Sustainability Awards 2025.

Organised by the Ceylon Institute of Builders (CIOB) and the Building Economics and Management Research Unit (BEMRU), Department of Building Economics, University of Moratuwa, the event commemorated organisations that demonstrated an authentic and holistic commitment to the highest standards of environmental and social stewardship in Sri Lanka. These awards reiterate Browns Plantations’ global footprint not only in tea manufacturing but also in spearheading sustainable practices that safeguard local biodiversity.

Browns Plantations’ award-winning approach is driven by a unified adherence to a set of core sustainability goals that serve as guiding principles for its green ethos. These foundations have and continue to shape the company’s rapidly growing portfolio, both with local Plantations: Maturata, Hapugastenne, Udapussellawa, Pussellawa and Tea Smallholder Factories Limited, and internationally in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, East Africa and China.
