Eagles soar to their first major trophy as stunning Wembley win against City crowns season of shocks
THIS has been the season of the underdog.
A campaign in which the status quo has been upset, the establishment disrupted and the 'Big Six' brought down.
Amid the red and blue flares at Wembley, Crystal Palace emerged as the most wonderful example by lifting the FA Cup to win the club’s first major trophy.
It was glorious. It meant the world to those supporters who shed tears of joy on a day Wembley will never forget. It will go down as one of the greatest and most iconic FA Cup stories. Manchester City, arguably the best team in the Premier League era and the only club in history to win the title four times in a row, dethroned and finishing the season without a trophy.
It came after Newcastle lifted the Carabao Cup in March to end their 56-year wait for major silverware. What odds would you have got at the start of the season for Palace and Newcastle to win the domestic cups?
