As 95mph Jofra Archer missed out on a Test comeback after being excused training to address a family emergency, Woakes insisted his fellow 2019 World Cup winner's best days are “still ahead of him.”

While Archer, who won the last of his 13 caps in 2021, must wait until next week's Third Test at Lord’s for his encore, the ‘Wizard’ will take the new ball as England eye a 2-0 lead in the five-match series.
