William and Kate lead tributes to RAF pilot killed in Spitfire crash

THE Prince and Princess of Wales yesterday led tributes to RAF pilot Mark Long who died when a vintage Spitfire crashed.
The aircraft, from the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, came down just a few feet from a home near RAF Coningsby in Lincolnshire on Saturday. Squadron leader Long described as a "passionate" airman had been a Typhoon pilot at the base for the past four years.
William and Kate posted on their Kensington Palace X account: "Incredibly sad to hear of the news from RAF Coningsby.
"Our thoughts this evening are with the pilot's loved ones and the wider RAF family. W & C." William Air was Honorary Commodore of RAF Coningsby from 2008 until August last year, when he handed the role over to Kate.
