Wildfires kill one as others flee for lives

ONE woman was killed and another person is still missing as wildfires erupted through southern Europe, destroying homes and triggering mass evacuations.

In southern France, a large blaze erupted near the village of Ribaute in the Aude region, an area known for its vineyards and forests.

An elderly woman died at home, and at least nine people, including seven firefighters, were injured.

More than 1,800 firefighters were deployed to contain the blaze, which has already burned down more than 30,000 acres, making it the largest and worst wildfire in France so far this summer. Five hundred emergency vehicles were also deployed.
