Wetter warning ...heavy rain and floods on the way

BRITAIN is heading into spring on Friday with a warning of heavy downpours, floods and travel chaos.

After a frosty and foggy weekend for many, the Met Office issued weather alerts with parts of southern England expected to be hit with an 18-hour deluge.

Commuters were warned they face disruption which could lead to cancellation of train and bus services and cause some areas to be cut off by flooded roads.

Homes and businesses could also be affected by an "unsettled" period over the next few days.

The Met Office said flooding could cause damage to buildings.

Yellow weather warnings were in place last night covering the South West and South East.

Some parts were expected to be hit by 1½ inches of rain.
