Water giants 'guilty of illegal sewage dumping in fine weather'

THREE major water companies allegedly broke the law by discharging sewage water on days of no rainfall in 2022.

Thames Water, Wessex Water and Southern Water have been accused of so-called "dry spilling" into rivers and seas in good weather.

A BBC probe looked at data from the firms and found they were offloading sewage on some of the hottest and driest days last year.

Other water companies declined to give similar information because they are under criminal investigation by the Environment Agency.
