Veterans blast VE Day ban councils: 'Don't be so bloody absurd!'

SECOND World War heroes are up in arms over suggestions VE Day celebrations should be cancelled.

‘And they have blasted any councils thinking of banning them, saying: “Don’t be so bloody absurd!”

Veterans erupted in fury after the Daily Express told how a councillor at one local authority said a parade to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of war in Europe could be “elitist”.

Liberal Democrat-led Dacorum Council, Herts, rejected calls for a parade,’ but it sparked nationwide anger and led to an abrupt U-turn.

Those who served to save the country during its darkest days know how important VE Day is — because they were at the very first one in 1945.
